Tenders not opened for Kato Hydro Project …says Hinterland Electrification Unit

THE Hinterland Electrification Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister said yesterday that tenders have not been opened for the Kato Hydro Project.

In a press release, the Hinterland Electrification Unit made reference to an article in Kaieteur News of May 01, 2013, under the caption “Govt. still looking for contractor for Kato Hydro project”, noting that the article infers that there was an opening of the tender for the project and an extension was given because no suitably qualified bid had been received.
However, to the contrary, the Hinterland Electrification Unit states that tenders have not been opened for the project.
“The tender process provides for a mandatory clarification meeting and site visit for potential bidders approximately one month prior to the closing date for the bids. A decision was taken by the contracting authority, the Ministry of Finance, to extend the dates for these two events to allow for greater participation in the process,” the Unit stated.
This extension, the Unit added, “automatically meant that the deadline for submission of bids will be commensurately extended.”
