POLICE announced yesterday that one person has been detained in the investigation of the Meten-Meer-Zorg road fatality last month which resulted in the death of 17-year- old Shane Prahlad of Parika, East Bank Essequibo, while his sister Tulsidai Prahlad continues to battle for her life in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Public Relations Officer of the Guyana Police Force, Ivelaw Whittaker told this newspaper that investigations are in progress and a report has being drafted for legal advice concerning Shane’s death. He said that the police are waiting for the teen’s sister to regain consciousness so that further action can be taken.
The accident occurred in the early hours of the morning on April 15. Prahlad and his sister were traveling on the Meten-Meer-Zorg Public Road when a car slammed into their vehicle. The siblings were immediately rushed to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, and later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where Shane died nine days later.
An autopsy report revealed that Shane died as result of a fractured spine, severe head injuries, and hemorrhaging. However, his sister Tulsidai, 25, remains in a critical state in the ICU of the Georgetown Public Hospital. She has not regained consciousness since the day of the accident.
Tulsidai had returned to Guyana shortly before her father had passed away and was days later struck with another tragedy on the Meten-Meer-Zorg Public Road. Her brother was laid to rest four days after his death.
