Independence Half-Marathon Road Race set for May 26

THE Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, in collaboration with the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) will be hosting its annual Independence Half-Marathon Road Race.

The race is scheduled for Sunday May 26, 2013 starting in front of Jerrick’s Funeral Home, Paradise at 05:30hrs and ending in front of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Main Street.
According to the rules governing the event, no athlete should be younger than 18 years old.
The categories are Open (men and women) and Masters (over 40-55, 56-and-older men and over-35 women).
Cash prizes would be presented to the top five finishers in the Open category and the top three in the Masters.
Prizes for senior men and women are: first $75 000, second $60 000, third $45 000, fourth $30 000 and fifth $20 000.
In the Masters category, the first prize is set at $50 000 while second and third cart off $30 000 and $20 000 respectively.
Transportation leaves Ministry of Culture, Main Street at 04:00hrs.
Entrance for this race is free and should be submitted to the Association’s Secretariat, 76 High Street, Kingston, no later than Wednesday, May 22.
