‘Water Belly’ killed by two trucks

THE police are on the look-out for the drivers of two trucks who struck and killed ‘Water Belly’ at the corner of High and Princes Street yesterday. altaltEye-witnesses say the man, in his fifties, was struck down by a canter truck and then by a sand truck which was driving right behind the canter.
The sand truck crushed the man’s head.
Both trucks drove away from the scene.
Persons in the area said that the man, known only as ‘Water Belly’, is no stranger to the neighbouhood
And he is more often than not under the influence.
He does odd jobs and often assists another man to pack pallets when roadside vendors leave in the afternoons.
One man who works at a block-making establishment on High Street said that he was at work when he heard a bang, but was unable to see what happened as he had thrown a tarpaulin over his workplace to keep the rain out.
The man, known as ‘Juice’ said that later he heard a commotion and when he went outside he saw what had happened. This was about 14:30hrs
