New Guyana Football Federation executive meets President Ramotar

THE new executive of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF), headed by  president Christopher Matthias met President Donald Ramotar and Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Dr Frank Anthony on Thursday, outlining the federation’s blueprint for the development of the sport in the future.
Matthias who won the presidency in a crucial election that came down to the wire on the evening of April 12, said the federation is desirous of partnering with the Government to promote football’s development. He was accompanied by Ivan Persaud and Collie Hercules both of whom will be rotating the vice-president’s position, Rawlston Adams, Vanessa Dickenson and Keith O’Jeer who are also on the committee.
Matthias, who in the company of a Supreme Court Marshal delivered the Court Injunction preventing the GFF from proceeding with the elections in 2011, said his priorities are to develop tactical and infrastructural development while at the same time maintain transparency and accountability.
In an invited comment subsequent to the meeting, Matthias told the Government Information Agency (GINA) that President Ramotar was pleased with the vision and is counting on the GFF to work in close partnership with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport so that “football becomes a national institution”.
The GFF found favour with the President’s advice to also focus attention to the South, and according to Adams, will devise a strategy whereby the football community will gain access to resources, training and scholarship possibilities. (GINA)
