MINISTER of Foreign Affairs of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Elías Jaua Milano will be visiting Guyana tomorrow, during which the Hugo Chávez Centre for Rehabilitation and Reintegration is set to be commissioned. 
The US$2M Venezuelan Government funded project at Onverwagt, West Coast Berbice which will provide refuge for the homeless in Guyana was constructed on 7:30 acres of land. It was built to accommodate males and females in separate dormitories.
The facility boasts a medical facility, mess hall and kitchen, training room/conference hall and a recreation centre. Accommodation for a resident doctor and nurse has also been included in the design of the facility.
The occupants at the centre will be exposed to training programmes that are aimed at reintegrating them into their family and society. They will be afforded transportation, medical assistance and treatment, toiletries, clothing, and meals.
Construction began in January 2010 with a design prepared by the Ministry of Public Works and Communications and a technical team. The facility can house 180 persons and costs just over $400M.
According to the Government Information Agency, tomorrow’s visit of the Venezuelan Foreign Minister will include a courtesy call on President Donald Ramotar, and bilateral talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett on issues of importance including the agreement for the sale of rice.
A press conference hosted by the Foreign Ministers of Guyana and Venezuela is also scheduled at 13:15 hrs tomorrow at the Guyana International Conference Centre (GICC).
Guyana shares a historic and friendly relationship with its frontier neighbour Venezuela at the bilateral level and through the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR).
The two countries have built on progress in trade relations with an agreement that paved the way for Guyana to export rice and paddy into the Venezuelan market. Guyana is also a beneficiary of the PetroCaribe deal conceptualised by President Hugo Chavez that allows signatory countries to access fuel at a subsidised cost.
