CRIME Chief, Seelall Persaud said, yesterday, that police at Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara, are still investigating the brutal knife murder of 14-year-old, Fenella Samuels although the alleged killer is in custody.
The girl’s mother was also injured after her stepfather attacked the child in a drunken rage at their home on Wednesday night.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law Enforcement) disclosed that the teen had, previously, been, often, verbally abused by her alleged killer who accused her of being wicked.
Persaud said she would answer him and it would end up in a heated quarrel almost on a daily basis.
The man, identified as Randolph Fitz Josiah, 63, was apprehended by residents at New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop, where an angry mob attacked and rained blows on him until the police arrived and took him away.
Persaud said the police are not in receipt of any report of sexual assault on the teenager by her assailant but know that the tension between the two in the home was not “healthy” since arguments were the order of the day.
The teen succumbed at the West Demerara Regional Hospital (WDRH) on Wednesday night after she was rushed there by neighbours, who responded to a cry for help from her mother, whose husband had gone out of control.
KNIFE ATTACK
Reports said the man went into her bedroom where he launched a vicious knife attack on the hapless teen, who was stabbed between 14 and 15 times about the body.
Her mother, Mildred Rose was wounded when she tried to intervene on her daughter’s behalf and managed to escape with her nine-year-old son.
Police reported that, about 20:45 hrs on Wednesday, Fenella Samuels, 14, was fatally stabbed by her stepfather during a family misunderstanding.
Prior to the tragic incident, the girl had returned home from the Vreed-en-Hoop Police Station, located a short distance away from where she lived in Plastic City Squatting Area, after lodging a report that her cell phone was taken away by a young man.
