Remanded wounding defendant granted bail

JUSTICE Dawn Gregory, in the Berbice High Court, granted a bail petition on Thursday in favour of truck driver, Azeez Edoo, who is charged with feloniously wounding Shilender Sookhai, at Kwakwani Park, Upper Berbice River.

The petitioner, Marilyn Ann Drakes, of Timmers Dam, Mount Sinai, New Amsterdam, also in Berbice, was allowed to post $150,000 surety for Edoo, who is currently on remand in the Camp Street, Georgetown Prison, since his appearance in a City Court.
Attorney-at-law, Mr. Dexter Todd revealed that the offence is alleged to have been committed on March 28 last, in an incident involving Edoo and two other men at the ‘Double Deuce’ disco in Kwakwani.
The court documents indicated that the virtual complainant got into an argument that developed into a fight involving a number of other persons, over a female companion.
Police said it occurred about 02:00hrs and at least 10 people were seen throwing bottles at each other, causing even Edoo to suffer lacerations to the head.
The defendant is recorded as saying that Sookhai and his friends attacked him because he was seen talking to a female.
