Essequibo woman remanded to prison on marijuana charges

EREENA Thomas, of Lot 21 Devonshire Castle, Essequibo Coast, pleaded not guilty to two drugs charges before Magistrate Fabayo Azore yesterday.

Particulars of one offence said, on Wednesday, April 24, at Anna Regina, also on the Essequibo Coast, she had four grammes of cannabis sativa (marijuana) in her possession.
Another charge said, the same day and place, she also had 10 grammes of the narcotic for the purpose of trafficking.
Police Corporal Venetta Pindar, prosecuting, successfully objected to bail for the defendant, indicating that there are no special reasons for the grant.
Thomas told the court she is a businesswoman and the mother of one child.
She was remanded to prison and the cases were transferred to Anna Regina Court, for May 8.
