Essequibo Magistrate Sunil Scarce has placed a Canter truck driver of Jibb Housing Scheme, Essequibo Coast, on $340,000 bail over causing death by dangerous driving and breach of insurance charges.
Thirty-seven-year-old driver-mechanic Imran Ally, who appeared before the magistrate in the Anna Regina Court on Tuesday, was not required to plead to the indictable charge of causing death.
Reports said the driver drove the Canter lorry on Thursday April 18, in a dangerous manner on the Walton Hall Public Road, whereby Basmattie Prashad was killed when the vehicle overturned.
The driver was also charged for breach of insurance and carrying persons in the tray of the Canter truck. He pleaded not guilty and was granted $40,000 bail on that charge.
The case will be called in court again on May 22.
