RHTYSC forced to delay ‘Champion of Champions’ tournament

THE MANAGEMENT of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTYSC) would like to inform the general cricketing public that the start of the NAMILCO/BAKEWELL 20/20 tournament has been delayed and would not start this Sunday as was previously announced. The Club has been caught in the middle of the tug-of-war that has become the norm in Guyana’s cricket where personal power, personality clashes and settlement of scores are more important than the development and playing of cricket.
The RHTYSC has sought the permission of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) to host the tournament but it has not been granted on the basis of some legal matters between the GCB and the Berbice Cricket Board, hence the RHTYSC is therefore appealing to the WICB and is hopeful for a positive response.
This situation can only be described as sickening as cricket is being destroyed on grounds totally unrelated to the game.
The RHTYSC has informed the official sponsors of the tournament and they have been very understanding and we thank them for their cooperation.
The RHTYSC would inform the general public of the new date for the start of the tournament as soon as permission is granted, as the club remains committed to its motto: ‘In Pursuit of Excellence’ and would always place the development of youths, sports and education at the top of its agenda.
The tournament was launched two weeks ago in the boardroom of BAKEWELL, who along with NAMILCO are co-sponsoring the event which will feature eight teams who are: RHT Gizmos and Gadgets, West Berbice, Blairmont, Bermine, Universal DVD Young Warriors, Port Mourant, Skeldon and Albion battling for supremacy.
Players of the calibre of Assad Fudadin, Devendra Bishoo, Richard Ramdeen, Gajanand Singh, Sewnarine and Harrinarine Chattergoon, Renwick Batson, Rajiv Ivan and Clinton Pestano, just to name a few, will be competing for their respective teams in the tournament.
NAMILCO has pumped $400 000 into the tournament while BAKEWELL has donated $300 000 with Ansa McAl being given the bar rights for all matches and will also take care of the music for the final and television advertising, in collaboration with TVG Channel 28.
The second-, third- and fourth-placed finishers will pocket $100 000, $50 000 and $25 000 respectively. Incentives will be given to the Man-of-the-Match in the final with the organisers outfitting the four semifinalists and umpires with branded T-shirts.
