Guyana, Brazil military successfully conclude Caribex 2013

EXERCISE Caribex 2013 has ended in Port Georgetown at the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Coast Guard Headquarters, Ruimveldt. For the duration, three Brazilian naval vessels, high seas tug boat ‘TRIUNFO’ and two patrol boats the ‘GUARUIA’ and the ‘GOIANA’ were docked there for 36 hours. altaltThe annual operation is aimed at enhancing military ties between the two countries, by exchanging naval techniques and other advanced practices.
At a media briefing aboard the ‘TRIUNFO’ yesterday, Operations Officer of the Brazilian Navy, Lieutenant Commander Yoshiaki indicated that the crew and officers aboard the three vessels expressed gratitude for having the opportunity to visit beautiful Guyana and the Garden City of Georgetown.
Commander Jorge Jose De Moraes Rulff, who heads Task Group 350.1, speaking through Yoshiaki, said Guyana and Brazil have shared years of military friendship and established a bond between them.
He acknowledged challenges and successes in the bilateral ties but said the exercise achieved success for both armies.
It enabled the military naval crew of Guyana and Brazil to advance navigational search and rescue beyond territorial boundaries and he hoped it would serve the countries better.
GDF Coast Guard Commander Gary Beaton thanked the Government of Brazil and the Brazilian Army for their long diplomatic and friendly relations which are testimony to success and friendship.
He said they have gained a lot of experience and knowledge from the Brazilian Army over the years and the exercise in the development of military experience was successfully completed.
Beaton assured that Guyana and the GDF will continue the bilateral cooperation for the development of both countries through military exchange, friendship and bond.
The visiting vessels are expected to depart today and sail to Willemstaad, Curacao then to Puerto Rico, Martinique and stop in Paramaribo, Suriname before heading back to Brazil.
