A PARTNERSHIP for National Unity (APNU) Member of Parliament, Vanessa Kissoon, in the National Assembly yesterday, expressed concern over some nurses in Region 10 (Upper Demerara/Upper Berbice) who were on strike due to non-payment of their gratuity.
Kissoon indicated that the matter was raised last Friday, and that she had spoken to the Minister of Health who indicated that it should not have reached this stage.
Health Minister, Dr. Bheri Ramsarran said that the matter is a simple administrative one, which the nurses are aware of. He added that many of them do understand that because of the administrative glitch the gratuity would be paid shortly.
The minister stated that his ministry is regretful of this and the nurses have been so told. He emphasised that the matter could have been solved between employer and employee.
