Mr. CHRISTOPHER Ram is reported in Stabroek News to have said that as much as 35% of this year’s budget could be cut without affecting the efficiency with which government services are delivered.
He failed to mention where it could be cut and what he would suggest be done with the 35%. Once more it is clear that the opposition have misunderstood their mandate. It is not to cut the budget but make it more effective in satisfying the needs of the people. This and other budget statements ultimately must raise questions in the minds of opposition supporters and others as to whether the opposition can be an effective one or run any government.
And therein as they say-lies the rub. It is not enough to consistently oppose the government, but they must also show a willingness to either propose better solutions or support and improve on good ones.
The idea suggested that the opposition cannot do anything unless they are in the President’s seat, is disingenuous at best and highly misleading to their followers who seek better things for themselves not positions of power for their leaders. Power sharing can also start at the bottom. Hopefully, their followers will soon discover this fact.
