CHAIRMAN of Portland Holdings Inc., and Jamaican billionaire investor Michael Lee-Chin, who paid his first visit to Guyana on Sunday and left Tuesday, has rated Guyana’s hospitality as excellent.
The businessman and his team, who were in Guyana on an investment mission, met with President Donald Ramotar as well as several other government officials, and left these shores optimistic about potential agriculture, finance and telecommunication sector investments in Guyana.
In rating the enabling factors which have encouraged the team to be more upbeat about investing here, the chairman used the opportunity to speak about the government ministers he and his team met.
He made the comments in the VIP longue of the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) at a press conference minutes before he and his executives departed via his private jet for Jamaica.
Lee-Chin said that what is also noteworthy and his team has observed is the caliber of government ministers in the various ministries here.
The ministers which the team held engagements with were Finance Minister, Dr. Ashni Singh, Minister of Natural Resources and the Environment, Robert Persaud and Agriculture Minister, Dr. Leslie Ramsammy.
According to Lee-Chin, they are impressed by the influence and knowledge the ministers have as it relates to their particular sector and the experience and informed point of view from which they speak.
He added that the team also felt a sense of passion coming from the ministers as they spoke of current and future development in their sectors.
Consequently, the businessman and his team made the point that with such leadership, investors would be glad to come to these shores, would feel welcome, and would invest.
