Two killed, one critical in early morning accident

TWO young men are now dead, and a 16- year- old girl is critical after they were involved in an accident just after 03:00hrs yesterday.

altDead are Quincy David, 20, of 61 Back Road Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara, and Denzel Anthony Thomas, 24, of 25 Alliance Road Timehri East Bank Demerara, while Amanda Lloyd of 21 Back Road Soesdyke was in a critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital up to press time last evening.
Speaking with the Guyana Chronicle yesterday at the Grove Police Station, also on the East Bank of Demerara, the mother of the driver of the car said that she had two sons in the vehicle, one driving and the other in the front passenger seat.
The woman, Donna Peters, said that the two deceased and the injured girl were all in the back seat of the vehicle.alt
Ms Peters said that she received a call just after 03:00hrs yesterday informing her that her sons were involved in an accident on the East Bank Public road. She said that she immediately telephoned one of her sons and got no reply and then tried the other’s phone who confirmed that they were involved in an accident.
The shaken mother, whose sons were both in police custody at the time she spoke with us, explained that her son told her that they were hit from behind by a truck which sent the car they were driving slamming into a light pole.
The woman said that her son in describing the scene also indicated to her that two of the persons who were travelling in the back seat of the vehicle appeared to be lifeless. It was then that she asked about her other son whom she got no response from when she dialled his phone, and was informed that he was assisting in trying to rescue the persons from the wreck.
Her sons, Curtis Rodwell Peters and Deon Wilson Peters were still in police custody up to late yesterday afternoon. Ms Peters said that her sons were heading home to the East Bank of Demerara from the city when they offered to give a drop to all three of the persons who were passengers in the back seat with Thomas. Curtis is in the business of mining while his brother Deon is a mechanic.
altMeanwhile further on the East Bank was Beverly Marshall, the aunt of Quincy David, who said that her nephew left home yesterday at dusk to travel to the city for a party. She said that he told her he was going with some friends and will return home while making a request of her to borrow her house keys.
Like the mother of the two front seat passengers of the ill- fated car, she was awakened from her slumber yesterday morning. It was her nephew’s stepfather and his niece who came rapping on her door. Marshall said that when she got up to open the door she was greeted with the news that her David was involved in an accident.
She said that she quickly headed to the Grove Police Station where ranks advised her to visit the Diamond Hospital. The woman told the Guyana Chronicle that it was there that she saw her nephew and another young man lying dead with lacerations about their bodies.
At Alliance Road, Timehri, relatives of Denzel were preparing for a wake. His traumatized mother told this publication that she, like the other two women, received a call just after three yesterday morning.
Samantha is the sister of the injured 16- year- old student, Amanda Lloyd. The expectant mother told this publication that her sister was to meet with her at the park the night before, where they would have gone to a barbecue. But at the last minute her sister cancelled the appointment and said that she was not feeling well and was going to make her way home.
When Samantha telephoned the home a few minutes to 23:00hrs, her sister was not at home and she decided to call her only to find out that she was with the two male friends who died in the accident.
Then there was the call, Amanda was involved in an accident and was at the Diamond Hospital.
The Chronicle was informed yesterday afternoon that the teen suffered injuries to her lungs and was getting ready to undergo emergency operations late yesterday.
