ST JOHN’S, Antigua (CMC) – Congratulations continue to come in for Jamaican businessman Dave Cameron who was elected new President of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) last week.
Both the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) and the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) yesterday joined other regional territorial Boards in applauding Cameron who defeated incumbent Dr Julian Hunte in a close election in Barbados.
“The Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) is excited about your recent election to the position of President and Vice President respectively of the West Indies Cricket Board, despite your success coming at a time when challenges are varied and many,” said JCA Secretary Fritz Harris in a letter to President Cameron and Vice President Emmanuel Nanthan.
“We are confident based on the clear vision enunciated in your Manifesto and your proven ability that you both pack the necessary tools to get the job done against the most formidable opposition.”
Cameron, who was nominated by the JCA and seconded by the Windward Islands Cricket Board (WICB), defeated Dr Hunte 7 votes to 5 after the St Lucian had served in the position for six years.
“We encourage you Mr President and Mr Vice President to be inclusive, uniting, inspiring and fair,” said Harris.
“We at the JCA commit to be always at the ready to fully support your initiatives and endeavours as we join hands in continuing the re-building of the great West Indian product and the development of cricket as an industry in the region,”.
The GCB says Cameron’s experience as a WICB Director for the past ten years makes him capable of introducing measures to help resuscitate West Indies cricket.
“We are confident that after serving as a director for ten years, six of them under former WICB president Julian Hunte, Cameron is well equipped and capable of instituting the necessary changes, and continuing those that have already begun, to bring back glory to West Indies Cricket,” said a GCB statement.
“The GCB wishes the new administration every success and pledges its support, hoping that the administration will work hand-in-hand with the various Territorial Boards in the West Indies to take cricket forward.”
