IN AN evening full of drama at the National Cultural Centre on Wednesday when GT&T continued its Jingle & Song Competition, the duet round was completed.
The performances saw over 60 pairs competing in English and Bollywood segments from which 15 and 30 persons respectively were selected to compete at the next round of the competition.
The performers were backed by the Shakti Strings and the Heat Wave bands which provided excellent backup music to the splendid choice of songs performed by the duets.
In the Bollywood segment, there were performances of songs such as Sawan ka mahina, Touba, Ye Dosti, and Tere Mere, among others.
The competition was so fierce that two judges clashed over one of the performances in the Bollywood round.
The English segment saw much crowd support for the various contestants. As the evening progressed, more and more fans of the contestants filled the front of the auditorium.
In the meantime, the performances did not fail to impress the judges and the fans. There were pairs that definitely connected, while others, according to judges Charmaine Blackman and Gordon Moseley, needed more showmanship to compliment the outstanding vocals.
The selection of songs in the English segment ranged from contemporary soul to reggae, soca and classical. In some instances, the performers added their own ‘remixes’ to the songs.
However, as expected in a competition, as the going gets tougher and the time draws closer to picking that star, many were called but few were chosen.
Who were the lucky stars? Find out next week in our Jingle and Star Watch. They will be moving on to the quarter-final level of the competition.
