Guyana should get its own national air carrier

LAST week when I asked my booking agent to book my flight to Guyana, I was told there is a direct flight from Toronto to Georgetown from August for US$668.

I gave my booking agent my visa card and the date and time of return. I was very happy that CAL is now getting with the programme of getting Guyanese home direct from Toronto to Guyana.
Well, after waiting for a week and not seeing the payment on my visa bill for my CAL flight, I decided to check in with my booking agent on Sunday March 31.
I was told she is awaiting confirmation as to what is really going on with CAL.
People who booked and are booking their flights with CAL are now told about what is a direct flight.
To my understanding, a direct flight means I book my flight direct to take me from Toronto to Guyana.
According to CAL, the direct flight will stop in Trinidad to fuel up then on to Guyana.
On the way back, your direct flight, according to CAL, will leave Guyana and make a stop in Antigua for fuel-up then on to Toronto.
When ask why this is so I was told CAL is using a smaller plane so that’s the reason for refuelling and the stopping.
I warned before that our government jumped the gun in dealing with CAL who will once again throw Guyanese under their bus or should I say plane.
I and five others were feeling so happy that we can now jump on a flight and travel direct to Guyana and back with no more of Trinidad in our way but it won’t be.
I asked my booking agent not to book me at this time and I am glad she didn’t go ahead and booked me in this case.
She said she will get back to me sometime next week when she will know more about what CAL is doing to Guyanese again.
Once again, Guyanese are urging their government not to be left to the mercy of ‘Trini’, like it had been for so many years of suffering and hardship.
CAL does not care how they treat Guyanese. CAL is in it for Guyanese money only since CAL knows there is no competition.
CAL, according to news reports, made every promise to Guyana’s government when EZjet went ‘belly up’ to get back Guyanese passengers.
It is with hope that the Government of Guyana take a serious look at what CAL is doing and is about to do to Guyanese again.
It’s unfortunate that Guyana cannot have its very own national air carrier once again where Guyanese will not be left to the mercy of ‘others’.
Guyanese are saying enough is enough! Get our own national air carrier now!
