Guyana resumed on 225 for 7 and lost their final three wickets within the first four overs of the day’s play to be dismissed for 231, but thanks to the bowling of Veerasammy Permaul (4-39) and 20 year old speedster Ronsford Beaton who took a career best 4-52, dismissed CCC for 167 in reply.
Batting a second time with a first innings lead of 64 and approximately 150 spectators offering their support on Easter Sunday, Guyana lost Rajendra Chandrika who was bowled by his team’s first innings tormentor Nekoli Parris without scoring in the second over.
At the close of play, Guyana reached 44 for 1 with Leon Johnson who struck Ryan Austin for six late in the day, on 26 and Assad Fudadin 16, for a lead of 108 runs heading into the third day as bad light stopped play at 17:45hrs.
Scores Guyana 231 and 44 for 1; CCC 167.
CCC raced to 40 without loss in reply to Guyana’s first innings score, as Anthony Alleyne struck both Beaton and Paul Wintz for boundaries, before Shacaya Thomas was caught at the wicket by Anthony Bramble off Permaul for 07.
Alleyne and Parris followed shortly after, with Alleyne being caught by Johnson at gully off Steven Jacobs for 37 (59ball, 7×4) and Parris bowled through the gates by Permaul for 08, leaving CCC on 58 for 3 at lunch with both Kyle Corbin and Raymon Reifer yet to score.
Rain delayed the start of play after lunch by an hour, following which Guyana removed Corbin 11 (1×6, 1×4), who holed out to Narsingh Deonarine at long off as he looked to hit Permaul over that area at 71 for 4.
Devendra Bishoo replaced Jacobs and deceived Floyd Reifer who lost his off stump at 99 for 5, while the 100 was posted with the first of two sixes struck by Chadwick Walton off Bishoo in the same over, the 38th of CCC’s innings.
At tea, CCC were 145 for 7, losing both Raymon Reifer (19) and Akeem Dewar (08) to Beaton and after the break, Guyana removed Walton who was caught by Bramble off Beaton for 32 (67b, 2×6; 1×4), Austin 05 and Kevin Mc Clean 02 to take first innings points.
Earlier in the day, Guyana resumed on 225 for 7 with Bramble on 37, and lost their final three wickets for a measly six runs within the first 15 minutes of the day’s play from 3.3 overs.
Parris was the chief destroyer, removing all three batsmen in two overs to end with 4 for 9, as Bramble was caught under the bat by Alleyne without adding to his overnight score, while both Wintz and Beaton were lbw for 00 and 02 respectively, leaving Bishoo unbeaten on 4.
Austin 3-77 and Raymon Reifer 2-28 supported Parris in the bowling department for CCC who will be looking to make inroads into the home team’s innings, when play gets underway at 09:40hrs this morning.
