Airtime throws support behind AAG
JAMAICA’S very own Airtime (Guyana) Incorporated, an arm of Cell Smart Digicel, last Wednesday made a tangible donation of G$100 000 to the Aubrey Hudson-steward Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG), which will be used to offset expenses for the Bahamas-bound Junior CARIFTA team who departed these shores last Sunday.
Manager of the team, Amanda Hermonstyne, accepted the donation on behalf of the AAG, whose first vice-president Gavin Hope, himself a former athlete and national hockey player, extended heartfelt congratulations to General Manager of Airtime (Guyana) Incorporated Kenrick Phillips.
“The AAG is pleased with this timely donation from Airtime (Guyana) Incorporated, since all the support we can garner towards the further development of athletics in Guyana, is meaningful, helpful and welcome, even as we wish to say thanks to Airtime and look forward to their continued support,” said Hope.
In an invited comment with Chronicle Sport via telephone, Phillips said it was the first time his company has given any sort of financial or any other support to an entity in Guyana and they felt honoured and pleased to have done so.
“We are more into social and community development, but giving to the athletics team was a wonderful thing for us to do and we will continue to do so in the future,” said Phillips.
The Jamaican native who openly disclosed his passion for sports, called on the team to put their best foot forward and make the country proud at the games which will be held from March 28 to April 1, since sports can be used as a vehicle to bring a country together.
