A POLICEMAN shot and injured a man to rescue a colleague who was being attacked at Kurupung Landing, Mazaruni, last Sunday. The cop who was rescued had been bitten about the body by a miner.
A police report of the incident said it happened about 00:20 hrs on March 24, when two ranks responded to a wounding being committed on a woman.
It said during efforts by unarmed Constable 20640 Craigan to arrest the suspect, Sean McDonald, 30, of Castello Housing Scheme, Georgetown, the latter bit him on his face and continued the biting despite attempts to stop him.
The report said the other rank, armed with his service revolver, was forced to resort to the use of it and wounded Mc Donald on his right thigh.
Both Craigan and McDonald were taken to the medical centre at Kurupung and have since been referred to Georgetown for further attention.
