Holika Dahaan this evening

HOLIKA Dahaan, a function held to burn the pyre built subsequently to the planting of the castor oil tree on Basant Panchmi (eve of Phagwah),   takes place in various areas of the country this evening. It is symbolic of the consummation of evil reflected in the life of Holika, the aunt (phuwah, or father’s sister) of Prahalad.

The Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha has advised that it will be meeting at the Shri Krishna Mandir in Campbellville 19:00 hrs this evening for Holika Dahaan.

Subsequent to the performance of puja and havan, a procession singing chowtaal departs for the Camptown ground, Campbellville for Holika Dahaan (burning) at 20:00 hrs.

Tomorrow morning, the ash is collected and placed on the forehead of devotees. On Phagwah morning, Holi satsangh will be held at the Dharmic Rama Krishna Mandir in Barr Street Kitty at 08:00 a.m.

Holi Utsav will be held at the Everest Cricket Ground from 15:00 hrs tomorrow. The large number of celebrants will include His Excellency President Donald Ramotar and other diplomatic personalities.
