Gajadhar said, “The police did an excellent job, and I want to say thanks to the people also for assisting me, because they acted so quickly without hesitation when I screamed for help yesterday.”
Detailing his experience, he said it was at about 09:30hrs when he parked his car and was sitting in it, awaiting the return of his wife who had gone into the Guyana Revenue Authority when five men surrounded the vehicle.
At first he thought it was some joke, as one of the men pushed his head into the car and asked where the money was; but when he failed to respond, another opened the car’s rear door, where the bag containing the money was, and grabbed it.
At that point, Gajadhar said, he screamed for help, and a passing member of the City Constabulary responded, as well as public-spirited citizens who went chasing after the bandits. The bandit with the money bag was cornered and apprehended, and the bag and money were retrieved.
Gajadar said he was invited to make a statement at the Alberttown Police Station, after which the police returned the money to him. He added that while at the Alberttown Police Station, another bandit was brought in and placed in police custody.
Gajadar said the money he had in his possession was to pay Guyoil.
