AN annexe to the Fort Wellington Secondary School at Fort Wellington, Region 5 (Mahaica/Berbice) is to be completed by month-end and will accommodate some 150 students. Regional Executive Officer, Ashford Ambedkar, reported that the building is being constructed at a cost of $14.5M.
The school population at Fort Wellington Secondary has in recent years grown to the extent that some children are being currently housed at a building formerly used as a boardroom by the Regional Democratic Council.
Ambedkar said that construction of the annexe commenced on July 23, 2012 and was scheduled to have been completed in January 2013. However, the contractor (M&D General Contracting) had been granted an extension to March 30th.
The building is expected to be ready for handing over to the Regional Administration on this date. (Clifford Stanley)
