KINGSTON, Jamaica,  (CMC) – Sixteen wickets tumbled as spinners took charge on the second day of the fifth round match in the Regional Four-Day Championship between Jamaica and Leeward Islands here yesterday.

Out-of-favour West Indies left-arm spinner Nikita Miller snatched a season-best seven for 13 to rout the Leewards for 108, after they resumed the day at Sabina Park on 38 for three.
Carrying a lead of 101 into their second innings, Jamaica then found themselves in turmoil as leg-spinner Hayden Walsh Jr grabbed four for 45, to restrict the hosts to 153 for nine at the close.
Going into Monday’s third day, Jamaica lead by 254 runs and will fancy their chances of beating the bottom-of-the-table Leewards.
Starting the day facing an uphill battle, the Leewards were hurt by the early loss of opener Montcin Hodge who added just five to his overnight 16 before falling to pacer Andre Richardson (3-34).
Two partnerships then helped push the Leewards past the 100-run mark. The experienced Devon Thomas (18) added 21 for the fifth wicket with Jahmar Hamilton (11) before Walsh and Justin Athanaze (8) put on a further 20 for the eighth wicket.
Miller, with two wickets from overnight, snapped up another five to better his seven for 30 against Windward Islands earlier this month.
Jamaica fared little better in their second turn at the crease and needed captain Tamar Lambert’s top score of 43 to avoid collapse.
They were tottering on 44 for five before Lambert combined with Carlton Baugh (20) in a 60-run sixth wicket partnership.
Lambert faced 74 balls in 106 minutes at the crease and struck three boundaries while Baugh curbed his natural aggression to occupy the crease for 1-1/2 hours, in a 51-ball innings.
However, Walsh removed Lambert to trigger a slide where four wickets fell for just 12 runs, to leave Jamaica on 116 for nine.
Odean Brown (22 not out) and Sheldon Cotterrell (19 not out) then propped up the innings with an unbroken 37-run, last wicket stand.
