Opposition playing political games

AS would be expected, A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) has laid the blame for the koker crash and consequent flooding, at the door of central government.

But this is playing political games, which obfuscates the truth as to who is really responsible for maintenance of such vital sea defences, and the general maintenance of the city.
For all the complaints from citizens–both Guyanese and overseas based–civic groups and organisations about the scandalous state of the city, there has never been any from this particular political opposition that ought to have criticised the Mayor and his Council for their stewardship of the city.
Apart from silence on this shameful issue, there has been a similar attitude from this political opposition party as it relates to the many reports of corruption proven within this municipality. The silence has been deafening, so to speak.
It is not difficult to understand this line, which can best be described as convenient? The fact is the city is headed by a Mayor who is still very much a part of the People’s National Congress, and who is on record as making many statements on the state of the city.
But this is the nature of opposition politics these days. The Sharma sex scandal case was another instance when this party maintained its silence on a very serious issue. But this is because that alleged accused has a TV station that is a mouthpiece for the opposition parties, inclusive of the PNC. Thus, there is clear and incontrovertible evidence that where opposition interests are culpable, no reprimands of any type are expected.
It must be reminded of the APNU particularly, that it is immoral to play the kind of politics it does, especially when it involves matters that affect the well-being of citizens.
