THE National Sports Commission (NSC) will stage its annual awards ceremony for 2012 this evening at the International Conference Centre, Liliendaal
At tonight’s ceremony remarks will be made by Sport Minister Dr Frank Anthony, Director of Sport Neil Kumar, Permanent Secretary in the Sport Ministry Alfred King and NSC Chairman Conrad Plummer. The ceremony is scheduled to start at 19:00hrs and awardees are advised to be at the venue by 18:30hrs.
Veteran West Indies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul is the Senior Sportsman-of-the-Year 2012, while squash player Nicolette Fernandes is the Senior Sportswoman-of-the-Year.
Powerlifters Winston Stoby and Dawn Barker are the respective runners-up in the Senior Sportsman and Sportswoman categories.
Table tennis player Chelsea Edghill was voted Junior Sportswoman with badminton star Priyanna Ramdhani copping the runner-up spot, while young cyclist Paul DeNobrega is the Junior Sportsman with powerlifter Gumendra Shewdas as the runner-up.
Squash coach Carl Ince is the Coach-of-the-year with the Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation being voted Sports Association-of-the-Year and the Guyana Hockey Board the Most Improved Association.
Swimming coach Stephanie Fraser and president of the Guyana Boxing Board of Control Peter Abdool are the Female and Male Sport Personality awardees respectively, while the national junior squash team was voted Team-of-the-Year.
Guyana Times/TVG reporter/news anchor Avenash Ramzan is Sports Journalist-of-the-Year (Non-Print) for the second year in succession and third overall, while Guyana Chronicle’s Calvin Roberts won the Print award and Stabroek News’ Orlando Charles was voted Top Photographer.
