THE Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha, Essequibo Coast, is planning a grand phagwah mela on Sunday, March 31, at the Anna Regina Community Centre ground. According to secretary of the Essequibo Coast Praant, Ms. Mohinie Ramlakan, the mela will begin at 12:30hrs and will include a grand cultural programme.
She said the annual chowtal samelyan will be held on March 24 at the Reliance Mandir from 10:30hrs.
According to Ramlakan, the mela is an annual activity on the Essequibo Coast which brings together thousands of Hindus to celebrate Phagwah in a colourful atmosphere filled with laughter, love and brotherhood.
Abeer, abrak and powder – all clean, pure and sweet smelling – will fill the air as Hindus greet each other on the ground during the mela.
