CALVIN Sergeant, 24, a chemistry teacher at the Business School on Brickdam, was yesterday, convicted of robbery under arms. The convict, of 41 D’Urban Street, Wortmanville, gave notice of appeal after Magistrate Judy Latchman sentenced him to 58 months imprisonment.
The conviction was for having, on August 15, 2012, at Meadowbrook Gardens, also in Georgetown, being armed with a gun and in company of another person, robbed Floyd Rawlins of a gold chain valued $200,000.
Sergeant is to be back in court for trial on charges of being in possession of a .38 revolver, along with five matching rounds, without being the holder of a firearm licence.
The magistrate said, in sentencing him, she took into consideration the fact that the prisoner is a teacher with a clean record.
