A 36-year-old security guard of Anna Regina, Essequibo Coast, was last Wednesday jailed for two years, six months by Magistrate Sunil Scarce, when he appeared in the Anna Regina Court to answer a charge of burglary. Prosecutor Krishnadat Ramana, who was asked by the magistrate to give the facts of the case, said that on March 12, 2013, the virtual complainant, Roion Taka, who lives at Anna Regina, secured her belongings and went out at 10:30hrs.Upon her return at 11:50hrs, she observed that her home had been broken into and a pair of gold bangles valued $764,000, four gold rings valued $180,000 and other jewellery valued $150,000 were missing.
The matter was reported to the Anna Regina Police Station and the suspect was arrested. A search was conducted by the police at the suspect’s home and a quantity of jewellery was found hidden in a hole in a fireside. The prosecutor then applied the Administration of Justice Act to the case and the suspect pleaded guilty with an explanation that he was drunk. (Rajendra Prabhulall)
