GREGORY Laurie, 23, of Lot 10 East La Penitence Squatting Area, pleaded not guilty to the charge of simple larceny, before Magistrate Sueanna Lovell Wednesday.
Particulars of the offence said the defendant, on Sunday, March 10, at East Ruimveldt, also in Georgetown, stole one ‘Siemens’ cellular phone valued $7,200, property of Terry Laurie. The virtual complainant (VC) told the court that the defendant is his son, who had asked his mother to borrow her phone but managed to escape with it although she refused to lend him.
The father said, later that night, he could not find his phone where he habitually puts it to charge but, when he confronted the defendant, the latter said he did not want to hear anything.
However, after the loss was reported, the VC said he found out that the phone had been sold to someone else.
The father informed the magistrate that he does not wish to proceed with the case, but just wants his son to pay him back for the phone.
The magistrate then dismissed the case and put the defendant on a bond for two years.
