PRESIDENT Donald Ramotar yesterday participated in an early morning fitness walk in remembrance of the late Dr. Cheddi Jagan who made fitness walks in the National Park the first activity of his day.

altIn the company of First Lady Deolatchmee Ramotar, Prime Minister Samuel Hinds, Minister of Home Affairs Clement Rohee, Director of Sport, Neil Kumar and representatives of various interest groups, the exercise commenced at Red House on High Street, proceeded along Thomas Lands and into the National Park.
It is one of several activities organised during the month of March to commemorate the death anniversary of the late President and founder of Guyana’s first national Party, the People’s Progressive Party (PPP).
At its culmination, President Ramotar, who is accustomed to regular fitness walks in the park, recalled the early period when the arena was used as a golf course exclusive to colonial rulers.alt
That was changed when Guyana became a sovereign nation and the National Park was open to all for various forms of recreational activities. Dr. Jagan, according to President Ramotar, would conduct walks in the company of a few of his Cabinet ministers who enjoyed the exercise.
Under the management of the National Parks Commission, the venue has, over the years, undergone numerous upgrades, the latest being the installation of night lights for persons desirous of late exercises.
President Ramtoar said he is supportive of exercise, healthy living and the benefits this has on the population. He even shared his own experience on the way exercise has changed some of his bad habits and he assured that it can do the same for others.(GINA)
