Since you’re probably curious about what Samsung has in store, I’ve summed up just about everything you need to know about the phone in this week’s column.
The screen is going to be really big
The screen’s resolution is 1080×1920 Full High definition (HD) and 440 pixels per inch(PPI), with five inches (measuring diagonally)versus the current 4.8-inch size Galaxy S III, it’s last flagship phone. It doesn’t sound like a big difference, but it is. But guys, don’t you think five inches is almost comical? Anyway, we’re mostly using our smartphones as computers, so bigger can be better.
Plastic with aluminium sides
According to various reports, the case will be plastic, which sounds cheap compared to the iPhone or HTC’s latest phone. Samsung is doing it because it’s lighter, easier to make, and costs less.
No Home button
It is possible that Samsung will ditch the home button and makes the bottom part of the phone touch-sensitive. The processor comes in quad and eight-core. But don’t get too worked up over cores; it’s how you use them that matters. I believe Samsung is using its processor to be ridiculously fast.
Eye-tracking, or head tracking software
Depending on what you read, this new Galaxy is going to have some sort of eye-tracking, or head tracking software. It sounds like the phone’s camera will look at you, and you could nod your head to make the screen move. This feature allows users to scroll up and down a screen, using their eyes only.
When it comes to the graphics card, the Koreans have decided to go with Octo-core Mali T678 GPU, while the SIM card technology used will be nano-SIM. The device will be available in three different versions: 32, 64 and 128 GB.
A new flavour of Jelly Bean!
Android 4.2(*Jelly Bean/Key Lime Pie) came out in November 2012, so it’s still pretty fresh. Still, with a big phone launch, we assume Samsung would love a big Android launch. While Apple can link its hardware to its own operating system, Samsung uses Android like most other manufacturers. Yet it is Apple’s biggest rival.
It’s going to have a 13 Megapixel Camera
The megapixel thing is a bit misleading. You can have a ton of megapixels; I mean: 13 megapixels? That’s a lot! But if the software supporting the megapixels is crappy, the photos will be crappy. But knowing Samsung for its quality, we expect some real good shots.
Unlike the Samsung Galaxy S4, the iPhone 5 has been launched just a while ago. The guys at Apple were basically ecstatic over the two million pre-orders they had (with 1 million more than the pre-orders made for the iPhone 4S), and they started to promote their product a lot. We know that Android-running smartphones have been outselling the iPhones for a while now… Do the Americans, particularly Apple, still think they stand an earthly against Samsung? Let’s see who will do the most unpacking!
