PM Simpson-Miller backs Cameron for WICB president

KINGSTON, Jamaica (CMC) – Prime Minister Portia Simpson-Miller has endorsed Jamaican Whycliffe Cameron to be the next president of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB).

Cameron is the sole challenger against incumbent Dr Julian Hunte when voting takes place at the WICB’s annual general meeting March 27 in Barbados.
The Jamaican Prime Minister says she is confident that West Indies cricket will benefit from Cameron’s talent, passion, and experience spanning more than three decades.
“We would expect no less from him if he were to take over the reins and are confident that a renewal of West Indies cricket will result under his leadership,” Prime Minister Simpson-Miller said in an interview with the Jamaica Information Service (JIS)
“We place our full support behind his candidacy for the presidency of the WICB”.
Cameron, a long-standing WICB vice-president, has also received the endorsement of the Jamaica Cricket Association.
Voting members will also cast ballots to elect a vice-president with fast bowling legend Joel Garner coming up against Emmanuel Nanthan of Dominica.
The voting members of the WICB are: Barbados Cricket Association, Guyana Cricket Board, Jamaica Cricket Association, Leeward Islands Cricket Association, Windward Islands Cricket Association and Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Association.
