A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) is  calling on the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Guyana Police Force to take immediate enforcement action to curb the recent spate of road deaths in Guyana.

APNU, in a statement yesterday, bemoaned the recent deaths of following  three persons on the country’s roadways:

**  Patrick Lester, 58, of Golden Grove, who was killed on 3rd March following an accident on the Public Road at Nabaclis, East Coast Demerara. Lester, a pedal cyclist, was standing on the roadway with his bicycle, when he was struck down by the driver of a car.

**  Nicola Bridgelall, 13 years, of No. 64 Village, Corentyne,  who was killed at about  08:05 hrs on 8th March at No. 68 Village Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice when a ‘Tapir’ vehicle was involved in an accident.

**  Leon Barrett, 62, of Christianburg, Linden, who was killed on 11th March while driving his motor car which collided with an unlit, parked motor lorry at Amelia’s Ward, Linden.

APNU said it has pointed out that the latest fatal accidents all occurred in rural areas. The Partnership also called on the Police to intensify its patrols in those vulnerable areas to protect the lives of our road users.
