13-year-old killed in Corentyne accident; student & teacher injured

NICOLA Bridgelall of Number 71 Village Corentyne, Berbice died instantly on Friday on the Number 68 Village public road when the Tapir in which she was a passenger collided with another tapir, and she was flung from her seat right through the front windscreen and onto the roadway.

The 13-year-old Tagore Memorial Secondary School second former was heading to school at just after 08:00 hrs when the accident occurred. Guyana Chronicle was informed that the vehicle, Bridgelall had boarded, #H6505, was travelling in a westerly direction while the other vehicle, #HA 2572, was proceeding east when it ended up in the path of the one in which Bridgelall was a passenger. The injured were taken to the Skeldon Public Hospital, where Nicola Bridgelall was pronounced dead on arrival, whilst the others received medical attention.
Fourteen-year-old Kowsilla Ramroop and 21-year-old Andre Ramaldo, respectively student and teacher at the same secondary school, were also slightly injured to the head and face in that accident.
This newspaper was told that the tapirs were both travelling at a fast rate at the time of the accident. The collision reduced traffic along the Corentyne coast to a snail’s pace, as onlookers and passersby stopped to get a glimpse of the wreck.
Bridgelall is survived by her mother, Pushwattie Bridgelall, and her sister and other close relatives. The mother also works as the cleaner at the Tagore Memorial Secondary School.
The police have detained both drivers as they continue investigations into the accident.
