New full-colour publication set to launch today

GUYANA will today see the launch of ‘Shraadanjali’, a 24-page full-colour publication, during the Shivaraatri observances at the Guyana Sevashram Sangha (Cove and John ashram).
According to the publisher, Ms Parvati Persaud-Edwards, the launch of the publication is “an attempt to give a social and cultural voice to the Hindu/Indian communities in Guyana…”

She said that while the first edition will mainly carry features, it is hoped that after members of the various mandirs and communities in Guyana become acquainted with the publication, they would contribute photographs, news, views and interviews on events and activities through articles and Letters to the Editor.
“This Hindu/Indian full-colour production meant to give a cultural/social voice to these communities,” she said, “is primarily intended to feature contributions from mandirs and individuals on cultural and social issues, with no political input except in instances where a political personality of note participates in a cultural event.”
Contents of the maiden publication feature articles on various religious groups and personalities; a social commentary on the murdered GuySuCo workers; and a mini-bio on the Late Dr. Cheddi Jagan, whose birth and death anniversaries occur this month, among other relevant themes.
“March is a significant month, with Phagwah, Shivraatri, and Dr. Jagan’s birth and death anniversaries being observed during this month,” Persaud-Edwards  said.
While the publication is intended to be a monthly one, the publishers concedes that it would all depend on the volume of advertisement generated.
