Enmore motorist facing causing death, dangerous driving and DUI charges

TWENTY-YEAR-OLD Mahase Persaud of Enmore, East Coast Demerara, (ECD) appeared at the Cove & John Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday before Magistrate Z. Ali on charges of causing death by dangerous driving, dangerous driving and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Persaud was charged following investigations into a fatal accident that occurred on Sunday, March 03 at Nabaclis, ECD, which resulted in the death of Patrick Lester of Golden Grove, ECD.
The magistrate placed Persaud on bail in the sum of $800,000, $50,000 and $100,000 for the respective charges of causing death by dangerous driving, dangerous driving and driving under the influence of alcohol.
Police reported that at about 22:45 hrs on March 03 at Nabaclis Public Road, ECD, pedal cyclist Patrick Lester, 58, of Golden Grove was struck when the driver of motorcar PPP 1181 was proceeding along the roadway.
The driver, who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol, lost control of the vehicle and struck a parked motorcar before hitting the pedal cyclist who was standing on the roadway with his bicycle.
