Court told… Jailed man wounded wife because she refused beers

WAZIR Rahim (no address given) was sentenced to nine months imprisonment yesterday, for wounding his reputed wife, Reoutie Boodhoo.

He pleaded guilty, before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, to having unlawfully and maliciously wounded the woman with a beer bottle because she refused to drink the beers he bought for her, on March 7.
Police Corporal Seon Blackman, prosecuting, said the reputed husband and wife went out and purchased four beers and, when they returned home, Rahim was forcing the virtual complainant to drink the beverages but she refused and he took one of the bottles and dealt her several blows to her forehead.
According to the prosecutor, the woman suffered injuries to her forehead and sought medical attention from the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) prior to making a report.
The defendant told the court that his wife promised she would give him another chance and he was sorry for hitting her.
However, the woman remained quiet and the magistrate told the defendant it is up to the virtual complainant to decide if she will take him back when he comes out of prison.
