UWI programme for SMEs introduced at Republic Bank

THE Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business at the University of the West Indies (UWI) introduced its online Masters in Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Management programme to Republic Bank (Guyana) Limited clients yesterday. It was done at the bank’s Promenade Court, New Market Street, Georgetown headquarters, under the theme: ‘Growth to Greatness’ and the occasion also included a business lecture, titled ‘Growth to Greatness: Smart growth for your SME’ by Professor Miguel Carrillo.
Speaking at the introduction, Republic Bank Managing Director, Mr. John Alves said they are very thankful for another opportunity to collaborate with the graduate school for the purpose of empowering their SME entrepreneurs.
“We support the development of small and medium entrepreneurs (SMEs) with a view to ensuring their improved ability to think and operate strategically in today’s increasingly competitive global environment,” he said.
Alves disclosed that, through their partnership with the graduate school, which commenced in 2010, almost 50 local beneficiaries have, so far, been exposed to the annual commercial customer programme and lectures with notable business results.
He said the bank is one which sees beyond simply lending money for business.
“We see vast benefits for our stakeholders’ development, hence our vision of increased potential for this sector and we have every confidence in the multi-faceted benefits to be gained by the recipients and all Guyana,” Alves stated.
He assured that the bank will continually seek opportunities to bridge knowledge gaps through the provision of programmes that are specifically aimed at improving business skills and competencies.
The objective of the Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business online Masters in SME is to empower existing and future small and medium business entrepreneurs to excel in today’s highly competitive, globalised environment.
