A VRYMAN’S Erven Secondary School 15-year-old student appeared before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo, at New Amsterdam Court in Berbice, last Friday, charged with felonious wounding. He was granted $50,000 bail after he pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which said, with intent to murder; he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Rayon Hudson.
Police Corporal Orin Joseph, prosecuting, said, on February 1, the virtual complainant returned to his home and found four males blocking his gate at Smythfield, Greater New Amsterdam.
The home owner asked the quartet to move but the defendant became abusive and chucked the man who, in turn, told him to rest himself.
But, the teen left the scene and returned minutes later, armed with a three feet aluminum bar. His friends attempted to prevent their peer from attacking Hudson but were unsuccessful, as he lashed the victim across the right side of his forehead and eyes, from where blood flowed.
The 29-year-old Hudson was taken to New Amsterdam Hospital, prior to being transferred to Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) where he remained a patient for more than two weeks.
A medical certificate issued from the latter institution revealed that the patient suffered life threatening injuries, including an underlying skull fracture and a high possibility of permanent visual impairment to the right eye.
The defendant, who is preparing for the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examination is expected back in court on May 3.
