AFTER all the rounds in the preliminary stage of the Petra/Milo Under-20 Schools football competition ended this past Sunday, the 16 teams to advance to the knockout stage have been decided.
However, Chronicle Sport was unable to acquire the fixtures which will be published in an issue later in the week. The knockout round commences on Saturday at the Ministry of Education (MOE) ground where all the preliminary matches took place.
The top two teams from each of the six groups along with the best four third-place finishers have made it to the knockout round.
In Group A, Charlestown Secondary (9 points) and North Georgetown (6 points) were the top two teams; in Group B – Tucville finished with nine points and St. George’s had six points while South Ruimveldt (7 points) and Bishops’ High (6 points) were Group C’s top finishers.
Group D had Lodge Secondary (9 points) and Dolphin (6 points) at the top while Chase’s Academy and Carmel Secondary were the top finishers in Group E with six points each while Richard Ishmael (9 points) and New Campbellville (6 points) were Group F’s top teams.
The best four third-place finishers were Queen’s College, North Ruimveldt, Christ Church Secondary and Tutorial High.
North Ruimveldt and Queen’s College progressed with six and four points, respectively, clearly making it into the next round.
However, Tutorial High and Christ Church with goal differences of -1 and -2 respectively were the next best third place finishers as they shared a 3-point third place position.
The eight teams that faced expulsion were Ascension Secondary, St John’s College, Cummings Lodge Secondary, Guyana Education Trust College (GETC), David Rose, St Winefride’s Secondary, Central High and Sophia Special School.
