THE mixed jury in the Rampersaud brothers murder trial yesterday heard that No. 1 accused Lloyd Rampersaud confessed to the killing of Munilall Mangru, called ‘Boy’.
Sgt. Persaud, to whom the alleged confession statement was given, quoted the accused Lloydie as saying: “After we heard that ‘Boy’ had a lot of money, we smoked cocaine and planned to rob him.
“Towley viced him, and I hit him on the face with a piece of wood. He fell, and his tongue came out. I took out the money from his crotch, and when we counted it, it amounted to $40,000. We divided it equally, I took $20,000 and I gave him $20,000.”
Munilall Mangru, called ‘Boy’, who was allegedly seen being beaten by the two brothers on the day in question, was later found dead in the mud under the Triumph bridge on the East Coast of Demerara.
When questioned earlier, both brothers denied the allegation that they had beaten ‘Boy’ that afternoon, after smoking cocaine.
Sgt. Persaud, a principal investigator in the case, said Towley was one of the persons charged with the murder of ‘Boy’; but in answer to a question, he told the jury that the charge against Towley was withdrawn by the DPP.
The prosecution is being conducted by Mrs. Konyo Thompson, in association with Ms Dhanika Singh. Attorney-at-law Mr. Euclin Gomes is defending.
The hearing is continuing.
