‘Destra Inferno’ to end Berbice Mashramani celebrations Sunday

CHAIRPERSON of the Planning Committee for the Region 6 (East Berbice/Corentyne), Ms. Gloria Beharry told a press conference, Tuesday, that the ‘Destra Inferno’ is to add spice to this weekend’s culmination of Berbice Mashramani Celebrations.

altSpeaking in the New Amsterdam Town Council Boardroom, she said the event is, indeed, one with a distinct difference and will bring the curtains down on the Mash festivities when it is hosted at the New Amsterdam Technical Institute Ground on Sunday, March 3.
Beharry said her organisation is pleased to be associated with the programme which is the result of collaboration with ‘Slaughter House Entertainment.’
The promotion will feature sizzling performances by Trinidad’s Soca Temptress Destra, Jamaican reggae/dancehall star ‘Cecile’ and international chutney entertainer Rick Ramoutar.
To ensure a balanced musical repertoire, the promoters have added the likes of United States (U.S.) Chutney sensation Jun Jezzy, who finished seventh in this year’ Chutney/Soca Monarch competition in Trinidad, Beharry said.
Also on the platter is long time soca phenomenon Marlon ‘Malo’ Webster.
Musical satisfaction
Speaking at the press conference, too, Slaughter House Entertainment Chief Executive Officer, Keith Mordle said it took months of consulting and planning, as they intend to put on a fully family oriented show and a forum that offers musical satisfaction to all potential ethnic supporters.
He said it should also serve as a positive boost, in its own way, for Berbice tourism because his agency will also be embarking on several other ventures around Guyana for 2013.
Mordle acknowledged that, at first, it was a bit difficult to come up with a satisfactory package for Berbicians but, with the help of his events coordinator, Vijay Panday, they soon “had the ball rolling” and the artistes selection was eventually decided.
Panday urged all Berbicians and patrons around Guyana to come out and in support, emphasising that Jezzy is a talented Guyanese-born who has been doing well, musically, on the international scene.
Panday said not only will clean, healthy fun be on offer but the audience will get a chance to wind down their 2013 Mashramani in grand style.
