15 challenges made as jury empanelled to try six for murder at Annandale

WITHOUT showing cause, five of six persons accused of the murder of Niranjan, allegedly committed at Annandale, ECD on July 29, 2008, yesterday challenged the suitability of 15 jurors as a 12-member jury, comprising eight men and four women, was empanelled in Justice Navindra Singh’s court to try them at the Demerara Assizes.

altThe accused in this matter are Vishal Singh; Vishnu Singh; Akash Singh; Babsie Singh, called Solex; Satesh Singh, also known as Satesh Kemraj and ‘Boy Boy’; and Parsram Lalchand, called Desmond.
They have all pleaded not guilty, and are being represented by defence counsels Mr. Peter Hugh (representing numbers 1 to 4 accused), and Mr. Hukumchand (representing numbers 5 and 6 accused).
They are facing trial for the alleged murder of Niranjan, which resulted from a misunderstanding over a bicycle.
The hearing has been adjourned to March 12th.
