Despite APNU claims… Home Affairs pledges to continue with reforms

THE Ministry of Home Affairs, on Monday night, said it had noted, with disdain, the reckless and baseless statement emanating from A Partnership for National Unity (APNU), claiming “selective profiling” on the part of the law enforcement agencies in the execution of their lawful duties.

In a press statement, the ministry charged that this is not the first occasion on which such a misguided statement has been made by the People’s National Congress (PNC)/APNU.
The ministry added that such statements are unhelpful and send a wrong signal to the populace, creating the impression that APNU, either by omission or commission, is on the side of criminal elements and only help to embolden those engaged in criminal enterprise.
“The result being an increase in serious crimes in our country, since the criminals are led to believe that they have the support of a political party,” the ministry said.
The ministry said, with a former Commissioner of Police within its parliamentary ranks, it is paradoxical if not disappointing to learn about such unhelpful and mischievous statements emanating from APNU.
The ministry dismissed, as presumptuous, the claim that the actions of the police in the Rosemary Lane area, are related to the recently launched Strategic Plan of the Guyana Police Force (GPF).
It added that the claim is both wicked and mischievous and is in keeping with the stated policy of APNU, to do its level best to bring the law enforcement agencies and the ministry into disrepute.
The ministry pledged that it will not be distracted by APNU’s “tantrums or its penchant to create mischief, hate and prejudice in our society.”
Further, the ministry will press on with its Mission Statement, continue to extend its full and complete support for the reforms envisaged, also at the GPF and the Guyana Prison Service (GPS) which have already won accolades from civic society and the majority of law abiding Guyanese citizens.
