Opposition more intent on pulling down the government

THE opposition is more intent on pulling down the government than in helping to lift up the Guyanese people. It is estimated that some 3,000 young girls drop out of school annually as a result of pregnancy. Thousands of boys drop out for various reasons. Why not give a needed voice to the plight of these young people rather than make efforts to silence Mr. Rohee?  Without an education and with the opposition’s continued charges of discrimination and denial of opportunities for “African-Guyanese”, how can one expect these young people to act in the face of the hardships they  are likely to encounter in later years. If they cannot raise themselves up by their own efforts, then they will only expect that a government or party will have to do it for them. This builds up feelings of resentment at best, anti-social or criminal behaviour at worst. It is time to encourage personal empowerment through education and entrepreneurial efforts instead of a sense of entitlement to far more benefits than any government can reasonably provide. Possibilities in agriculture and commerce must be understood and exploited, for this is where wealth is best acquired. .

An opposition leader or a group of their supporters has to demand a change in tactics from accusing and opposing only to proposing changes and serious dialogue with government. These talks are best held outside of Parliament which has become a stage for political posturing.
We need cooperation and consensus by parties on as many things as possible if Guyana is to move at a faster development pace.  Opposition supporters must act to influence a change, or no one will win in a race to nowhere.
