CHIEF Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday sentenced a man to three years’ imprisonment and fined him $30,000 for drug trafficking. Michael McKenzie (no address given) pleaded guilty to the offence, admitting that on February 6 he trafficked in 29 grammes of cannabis (marijuana).
The defendant told the court the narcotic belonged to him, and that he usually boils the herbs to drink. He claimed he has only one lung, and herbs help him to breathe. McKenzie also begged the court to be lenient with him as he is a first offender.
