House invasion armed robbery defendant remanded

ANDREW Mullen (no address given) was remanded to prison yesterday on a robbery-under-arms charge when    he appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which stated that, on February 5, being armed with a knife, he robbed Natalie Jairam of gold jewellery and other booty valued at a total of $402,500. Police Corporal Kerry Bostwick, prosecuting, said the virtual complainant was at home alone when five men went there, armed with knives and cutlasses, and held her at knifepoint.

The Prosecutor, who said the defendant was subsequently arrested and picked out on an identification parade, objected to bail on the ground that the latter has no fixed place of abode.

Defence Counsel Paul Fung-a-Fat made an unsuccessful request for his client’s pre-trial freedom, stating that Mullen walks and sells juices for a living.

The defendant will be back in Court on March 15.
